Why do I read so many Narnia fanfics about Lucy falling for Mr. Tumnus, and vice-versa?
I certainly never saw in the novel a loving relationship develop between Lucy & Mr Tumnus that went beyond friendship. I have read and agreed with, partly, the idea that Mr Tumnus may be perceived as a little strange for taking a young girl back to his house in the woods for tea, and Lucy certainly should have known better, however there is never any mention of ual love or real attraction between the two of them! The novel was also written for children, therefore I doubt hints at a loving kind of relationship that went beyond friendship are actually plausible. If there are any quotations in the book which suggest they were ual feelings between the two of them, I'd like to see them because I doubt C.S.Lewis would have wanted the two characters to be viewed as falling for one another. The novel shows no reference to love in that way at all - not even between Mr & Mrs Beaver I don't think, so the theory that Lucy & Mr Tumnus fell for each other seems a highly unlikely concept to me! Thanks for the question though cos I'm going to research it now!
