Is the arrival of more helicopters in Afghanistan too little too late?

The Merlins should I imagine help with the IED's and roadside bombs which keep killing our troops. The Merlins were all in a major overhaul so there wasn't a great deal the MOD could do except cut corners speed up the upgrade and maybe jeopardise lives in the long run. Definetly too late. The point is about the refit is that from previous experiences in Iraq the MOD knew they couldn't operate the Merlins in the Harsh Afghan conditions, we would not be happy if they sent these heli's years ago just too break down.
