What's the essence of faith in God?

The problem here is the widespread but totally erroneous idea that faith is somehow a virtue. It is not -- in fact, it is the ultimate evil: it is the deliberate rejection of the essence of one's humanity - the ability to apply logic to evidence and arrive at valid and useful conclusions. If you have faith, you are no better than your pet dog, who has faith that you are not about to kick him.
