Every time I hear catcalls on the street I'm reminded of my econ professor saying that nobody does anything where the marginal costs outweigh the marginal benefits. So what I'm wondering, is why do men heckle women on the streets when they're obviously just going to be ignored? It's not like I'm going to jump into bed with someone who heckles me on the street, so what potential benefit do they see in calling out to strangers?
