What kind of socks should I wear with Gore-Tex hiking boots?

I have a pair of North Face Gore-tex, high-cut hiking boots and I am wondering what is the best kind of socks to wear with them? I obviously want to maximize breath-ability and minimize blisters etc. I Relevant; I will be hiking mainly around Ontario and parts of British Columbia in spring, summer and fall.
